everything i eat, most of which i've made, somewhat properly
top 3 umami-inducing table condiments:
my dad is on a low sodium diet so the food at home has been…not awesome. so i got these 3 items at hmart today to make the food imho edible. basically they’ll make anything bland taste so much better.
1. furikake-a blend of bonito flakes, salt, seaweed and sesame flakes. sprinkle it on plain rice for an extra kick.  i also sometimes make a snack out of furikake and cornflakes (or cheerios) for a ghetto version of japanese rice crackers.
2. garlic chili sauce-an alternative to the oh so popular sriracha (and made by the same company.) like me, my parents eat a low-meat diet but they haven’t really gotten the hang of vegetarian style cooking AKA garlic and onions in everything. so the garlic in this sambal just makes everything tastier.
3. tonkatsu sauce-a sweet and tangy sauce, kind of like barbecue. i don’t really eat a lot of katsu (breaded pork chop) but i do like the sauce in soups, ramen and veggies—like a better soy sauce. there are a lot of different brands (a very detailed comparison here) but i basically grabbed the one with the least packaging (my mo in asian supermarkets.)
